At times, the weather was pleasant, at others there were striking incursions of very hot air with new, impressive record temperatures. Low-pressure systems and their extensions brought severe thunderstorms with gale-force wind and hail to some regions while precipitation was mostly sparse. All the summer months were significantly too warm with an excess of sunshine and too little rainfall.
