February 2021 was warmer than normal in temperatures and below-average precipitation.?The mean temperature of the month was 19.7?C which is 1.3?C above the long-term normal for February and this goes on record as the fourth-highest mean monthly temperature for February since 1902. This is the same as February 1960 and exceeded by February 1963 with a record of 21.5?C, February 1999 and 2010 with a record of 20.4?C and February 1979, 2015 and 2018 with a record of 19.8?C.

Flash Flood Guidance System promotes gender equality

To mark International Women?s Day on 8 March 2021, WMO is showcasing the results of a special survey on Women in the Flash Flood Guidance System (FFGS) Project with Global Coverage.

IPCC reschedules Working Group I approval session

?The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has rescheduled the approval session for the Working Group I contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) to 26-30 July 2021 from April.
The IPCC is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide political leaders with periodic scientific assessments concerning climate change, its implications and risks, as well as to put forward adaptation and mitigation strategies....

Report shows insufficient climate action plans

UN Climate Change?has published an initial assessment of Nationally Determined Countributions, the?NDC Synthesis Report, showing nations must redouble efforts and submit stronger, more ambitious national climate action plans in 2021 if they?re to achieve the?Paris Agreement?goal of limiting global temperature rise by 2?C?ideally 1.5?C?by the end of the century.
